ConeWatch is operated by Got It With Gratitude LLC, a Michigan limited liability company ("we", "us"). By using ConeWatch you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
The short version. ConeWatch works without an account and does not ask for your name, email or phone number. It uses your phone's location and motion sensors to show you hazards and to detect rough road. Hazard reports you submit are shared with other drivers and may be used, in aggregated and de-identified form, to produce road-condition data. We do not sell information that identifies you.
Privacy
What we collect
- Location. Used to place you on the map, provide navigation, and attach a position to any hazard you report. Location is read while the app is open.
- Motion sensors. The accelerometer and compass are used to detect impacts (potholes and rough road) and to orient the map to the direction you are facing. On iOS your browser asks your permission before we can read these; you can decline and the rest of the app still works.
- Hazard reports. The type, location and time of any hazard you submit, plus a randomly generated device identifier so duplicate reports can be grouped. This identifier is not linked to your identity and is stored on your device.
- Local app data. Settings, recent destinations, saved routes, cached map tiles and a count of days you have opened the app. This stays on your device and is not transmitted to us.
What we do not collect
- No name, email address, phone number or account.
- No contacts, photos, microphone recordings or browsing history. (Voice search, if you use it, is processed by your browser's speech recognition and we receive only the resulting text.)
- No advertising identifiers, and no third-party advertising or tracking pixels.
- No continuous background location tracking. ConeWatch reads location while it is open.
Who else is involved
ConeWatch relies on third-party services to function. Requests to these services carry the information they need to answer, such as a map area or a route request:
- Map tiles, geocoding and routing: OpenStreetMap and related open services
- Weather radar imagery: RainViewer
- Hosting: Vercel · Shared hazard database: Supabase
Each operates under its own privacy policy. We do not control their practices.
Retention and deletion
Data stored on your device can be removed at any time by clearing the site data in your browser, which resets ConeWatch completely. Hazard reports, once submitted, become part of the shared map; because reports are not tied to an identity we generally cannot locate an individual person's past reports, though we will honor any deletion request we are able to fulfill. Your data rights, and ours
When you submit a hazard report, you grant Got It With Gratitude LLC a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, store, reproduce, modify, aggregate and distribute that report for the purpose of operating and improving ConeWatch and producing road-condition information.
This includes providing aggregated and de-identified road-condition data to third parties such as municipalities, road agencies, researchers and fleet operators. Any such data describes road segments and conditions, not individuals, and is not accompanied by information that identifies you.
You keep ownership of what you submit. We do not claim your content as our own, and we do not sell personal information.
Terms of use
Using ConeWatch
ConeWatch is provided free of charge. You agree to use it lawfully and not to submit false or malicious reports, interfere with the service, or attempt to extract the underlying data in bulk without written permission.
Safety and accuracy
ConeWatch assists your driving. It does not replace your attention. Hazard reports come from other drivers and may be inaccurate, outdated or missing entirely. Routes, speed limits and arrival times are estimates. Always obey traffic law, posted signs and road conditions, and do not interact with your phone while driving.
ConeWatch is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by Michigan law, Got It With Gratitude LLC is not liable for any vehicle damage, injury, delay, or other loss arising from use of or reliance on the app.
Emergency features
The 911 control dials your phone's emergency services using your device's own dialer. We do not transmit your location to emergency services and we cannot guarantee a call will connect. Never rely on ConeWatch as your only means of contacting emergency services.
Changes
We may update these terms. Material changes will be reflected in the "last updated" date above, and continued use after a change means you accept it.
